Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was part of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times to summits and debate matters such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
